| Volkswagen today announces the completion of its modern and multi-award winning product range with the Crafter. Known until now as the LT3 (the third generation of LT) the Crafter name will feature from launch. The Brand’s product offensive started in 2003 with the new Transporter, continued with the new Caddy and is now completed with the Crafter. This stream of new products has been a key element in the Brand’s growth from 16,478 vehicle sales in 2002 to an expected 23,500 in 2005, a growth of over 42 per cent. |

 Powerful and extremely frugal engines underline the vehicle's character. A comprehensive engine range means there is an engine option for the demands of any job. The 2.5-litre five-cylinder TDI engine is available with 89 PS, 109 PS, 136 PS and 164 PS, depending on the application. Modern common rail technology ensures the engines have high torque at low engine speeds with very low fuel consumption. For the first time, a diesel particulate filter is fitted as standard. |

The Crafter is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard - an automatic transmission will be optional. The running gear of the Crafter is pioneering in its segment. The generously sized brake system is confident no matter what the load. Optimised suspension gives the vehicle good cornering stability, and for additional safety, the Crafter is fitted with ESP and ABS as standard.

 The safety features are completed in the ergonomically designed driver cab which offers drivers a comfortable work place. A driver’s airbag is fitted as standard, whilst front passenger airbags, curtain and side airbags are available as options. For added convenience, remote central locking and electric windows are fitted as standard. The driver is surrounded by a practical and spacious storage concept offering significant amounts of functional space. A dash-mounted gearstick permits quick gear changes and offers increased comfort, and also gives the driver more space in the front cabin.

| A choice of three wheelbases, four load compartment lengths and three roof heights enhance the versatility of the new range topper from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The Crafter has a maximum load capacity of 17 m³ and the 5-tonne panel van can now transport a weight of approximately 2,670 kg. There is ample width inside the vehicle for two Euro pallets to stand next to each other. This is complemented by superior load compartment access - in vehicles with the medium or long wheelbase, a sliding door reveals a loading aperture 1.3 m in width and 1.8 m in height, allowing Euro pallets to be loaded easily. An optional transport safety system can be used to prevent loads slipping. |

 The Crafter is visually striking in comparison with its predecessor. Strong lines, vertical clear glass headlights and chunky side protection strips characterise the modern and powerful design, giving the Crafter an impressive and imposing look.
Sales of the new vehicle are expected to start in the UK in the second half of 2006. The new Crafter will be unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham during April 2006, opening a new chapter in the 30-year history of the LT. |
