Looking after your Van

When it comes to looking after your new electric van, you may not know where to start, especially if you have never had an electric vehicle before. Here we hope to give you all the answers that you may need in knowing what warranties are offered as standard and what you can add as extra and how best to look after your van battery to get the best and longest life from it.

Van Manufacturing Warranties.

With electric vans coming with a battery warranty, as well as warranties for other things on some vans, like on the paint work and anti corrosion on the body work, it really couldn’t be a better time to switch to electric. A standard warranty is 8 years or 100,000 miles, which means that you will certainly get a lot of miles for your money. There are warranties available that cover the drive train and charge system, and with the battery already being covered, you can expect to pay a little less than if it was a traditional van.

Whilst under manufacturer's warranty, your van will need to be taken to a dealership for any issues that may arise, but once it’s out of warranty you can take it to any garage that you want, however, you may need to look for a garage that can deal with electric vans, as taking it somewhere that has a more in-depth knowledge of electric vehicles can only be beneficial to you. You may also find it useful to familiarise yourself with where the liquids are added to your van and the levels that they need to be kept at so that you can top them up and ensure that your van runs smoothly.

Electric vans are low maintenance, but not no maintenance, and they will still have yearly checks, and it's advisable to keep up the routine of a MOT and service just to ensure that your van is still operating in top condition.

A regular check up

Like with any vehicle, keeping it in good working condition is only going to prolong its life. Just because you have opted for an electric van doesn’t mean that it doesn’t that it doesn’t need some tlc now and again. There are a number of extra maintenance packages that we offer when you lease from us that can add to your peace of mind, meaning that you won’t be getting any shock bills if something requires attention.

An added service that is available is Total Care. This is an all-inclusive product that one of our finance companies offer for up to 5 years at a fixed cost. It includes the usual leasing monthly rental plus maintenance costs; breakdown assistance - including a replacement vehicle for 48 hours; Finance GAP insurance; damage protection covering costs of repair from an accident, fire or theft; third party liability; Glass damage protection. This means that you have only one monthly payment, the only other cost being for charging your electric van.

Battery Charging

Battery technology is getting better and better and the software that is installed is highly sophisticated and is continuously feeding back data anonymously about the health of your battery so that if a problem arises it is most likely spotted before you as the driver even notice, and that’s where that handy battery warranty comes in as all costs will be covered.

The battery software monitors how you drive the car, how long it has been on charge and the current weather conditions, and it can safely adjust its charging time, meaning that it will not over charge and risk damaging your battery, very similar to mobile phone batteries that can stall and reduce charging until it’s closer to the time that you usually take it off charge, thus reducing over heating and loss of potential charge if taken off too soon. As a rule of thumb you don’t want your van battery to go below 10 % nor do you want to go past 100%, usually somewhere in the 90s is classed as fully charged.

Here at MWVC we are ready to talk your call and talk you through the whole process answering any questions that you may have about switching to electric and looking after your new van.
